Julia Gillard Becomes Prime Minister
It’s a momentous reaching a milestone for Australia when Julia Gillard was elected as the first-ever female Prime Minster in the history of the country. Julia Gillard’s hard work and honesty in dealings makes her one of the notable leaders of Australia. Lack of support by the party and some disputed policy decisions by the former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, made it easy for Julia Gillard to bring down ex-rulers in election and taking their position with support from Cairns to Hobart.
Julia Gillard had a long journey, full of dedication and hard work, to be at the place of PM. She was quite active since her student life, and led the Australian Union of Students in 1983. After completing LLB/BA in economics, she joined Australian Labor Party. In Melbourne, 1987, Julia joined Slater and Gordon as an industrial lawyer. Within a short period of three years, she became one of their partners. She served the Australian Labor Party on various positions during late 1990s, and actively participated in several international events afterwards.
Julia Gillard served as Shadow Minister for Population and Immigration after the election of 2001, and in 2003, she expanded her responsibilities to Reconciliation and Indigenous Affairs too. As a result of her dedication and efforts, she was appointed as Shadow Minister for Health in July the same year. In December 2003, she was promoted from Deputy Manager to Manger of Opposition Business aroiund the same time the anti-pokies parties were gaining in popularity. Her views on negative gearing and tax benefits on investment property are not clear.
After the election in 2004, she was re-appointed to continue serving both positions of Manager of Opposition Business and Shadow Minister for Health. 2006 was also notable year for her political achievements, when Kevin Rudd appointed her as the Deputy Labor Leader to serve Ministry of Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Inclusion. Hard work, dedication (and poor decision making by Kevin Rudd) smoothed her way to become the first-ever female Prime Minster of Australia. The also has great financial acumen and a credit report to be envious of. People say she was born to be at this place, only time will truly tell whether Australia was on the election money or if she’s another cash for clunkers sub prime minister….
